I purchased this filter to go with a Fenix Flashlight I purchased. Our son and I like to take the telescope out at night, and in order to preserve your night vision and be able to read star maps, you need a good red light for that purpose. It is very well made, which is a bit surprising, given its low price, and the fact that we live in a world where so many things are made of cheap plastic. This filter fits over the end of my flashlight, which is great, because it means I can have one flashlight, and be able to use it for night vision, with the red filter on it, and I can also use my flashlight for regular light as well.
